We moved to Glenarm in 2020 from our home in England. Although I grew up in England, my Dad was a glensman from Glenariffe, and we spent many wonderful holidays here in County Antrim, and we knew that this was where we wanted to spend our retirement. We fell in love with our house the moment we saw it and immediately had ideas for how we could convert the upstairs into a holiday let. When we bought the house, the upstairs was storage space and a bar and games room, so during those first few months, as the world went in and out of lockdown, we spent all our time converting it. For six months, the only 'outsiders' we saw were the delivery drivers who would drop off various building materials and other items for the apartment.

Using our own experiences of travelling here with our children when they were younger, we wanted to try and incorporate all of the things that we wish the places we'd stayed in had had to make the holidays easier, as well as thinking about what we would want in a holiday let now that we are older. That became the basis for everything we put into the apartment, as well as our guiding principle as hosts.

We are proud of our apartment, and we work very hard to ensure that our guests have the best experience we can provide. We still have that frisson of excitement and awe when we look at the scenery and experience life here - basically, I guess we still think like tourists, but we have the added privilege of living here and being able to share that experience.
